Amalapuram: Six people, residents of Amalapuram town in Konaseema district of Andhra Pradesh, died in a car accident in Texas, USA on Tuesday evening. All those killed in the accident were relatives of P Venkat Sathish Kumar, MLA from Mummidivaram seat in the state. The victims have been identified as P. Nageswara Rao, Sita Mahalakshmi, Navina, Kritik, Nishita and other relatives of the family. There were a total of 7 people in the car and their car collided with a truck on Highway No. 67 in Cleburne city of Texas. There were two people in the truck.
17 year old boy hit by a truck
The MLA said that Lokesh is the only person in the car who survived the accident. He was airlifted to hospital but his condition remains critical. According to American media reports, two people were traveling in the truck that caused the accident and they have also been injured. Both have been admitted to the hospital for treatment but their identities have not been revealed. Kumar said, “The car of my uncle, aunt, her daughter, two grandchildren and another relative was hit by a truck by a 17-year-old American boy, killing them.” The accident took place on Tuesday according to American time. It happened at 4 pm and 6 relatives died on the spot.
The family had gone to a relative’s house for holidays
Kumar said that the killed people had gone from Atlanta in the US state of Georgia to their relative Vishal’s house in Texas for the Christmas holidays. They were returning from a visit to a zoo park when this accident happened. According to the MLA, Telugu Association of North America (TANA) is assisting in sending all the bodies back to India. Kumar, a resident of Amalapuram, said Nageswara Rao was the younger brother of his father P Satya Rao. Nageshwar Rao’s daughter was a resident of Atlanta and she also died in the accident.
Kumar, a two-time MLA, is a member of the ruling YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh.
