Delhi: LG approved the construction of 10 more family courts in the city, the number reached this much

New Delhi: The number of family courts is going to increase in the national capital Delhi. In fact, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the construction of 10 more family courts in the capital. The number of such courts in the city has increased to 31.

Four years after the proposal was first brought in October, 2019, Delhi finally gets 10 more family courts to help decide cases pending for more than a decade.

71 other posts including 10 new judges will be filled

With this announcement by LG, 71 other posts including 10 new judges will be filled. These posts include Reader, Steno/Sr. PA, Steno/PA, Ahlmad/JA, Assistant Ahlmad, Naib Nazir, Orderly and Staff Car Driver.

The approval follows the recommendation of the Full Court in 2019 for the creation of at least 10 more Family Courts to address cases pending for more than 5-10 years.

How many cases are pending?

There are approximately 46,000 cases pending in the Family Courts in Delhi, the lowest 1321 cases are pending with the Principal Justice, Family Court, Saket and the highest 3654 cases are pending in the Family Court, Rohini.

According to the Family Courts Headquarters, Dwarka, on an average about 150-200 cases are registered in the Family Courts every day and about 80% of the staff in these courts are working in a different capacity from other departments.
