New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a powerful attack on the Congress by using the letter of the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru as a weapon in the Rajya Sabha. Taking aim at Congress, PM Modi said, ‘Nehru ji used to say that if SC/ST, OBC get reservation in jobs, then the level of government work will fall. This is the root of what these figures count today. If he had been recruited in the government at that time, he would have moved ahead after promotion and would have reached here today.

‘Nehru ji had written a letter to the Chief Ministers’

PM Modi said, ‘Once Nehru ji had written a letter to the Chief Ministers. It was written in the letter that I do not like any reservation and especially not reservation in job. I am against any step that promotes inefficiency, that leads to second-rate standards. On this basis, I say that Congress is a born opponent of reservation. The Congress which did not give complete reservation to OBCs, never gave reservation to the general category poor, is now preaching social justice to us and teaching us a lesson.

‘Injustice was done to our past’

Speaking on the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister said, ‘The Congress which did not consider Baba Saheb worthy of giving Bharat Ratna, kept giving Bharat Ratna only to his family. Those who have no guarantee as a leader are questioning Modi’s guarantee. ‘Congress spread the narrative, as a result of which people who believed in Indian culture and values started being viewed with inferiority complex. Thus injustice was done to our past. The world knows very well where its leadership was.

‘I request you to secure 40 seats’

PM Modi said that even today these people are avoiding speaking local for vocal, the talk of self-reliant India does not come out of their mouths. He said, ‘When someone says Make in India, rats start running in their stomach. The challenge facing you from West Bengal is that Congress will not be able to cross the 40 mark (in the Lok Sabha elections 2024). I pray that you are able to secure 40 seats.
