The ruckus in Chandigarh Mayor elections has now reached the Supreme Court. While hearing the case on Monday, the Supreme Court criticized the Returning Officer conducting the Chandigarh Mayor elections and said that it is clear that the Returning Officer has distorted the ballot papers. According to the information, the court said this after watching the video of the election process. The Supreme Court has reprimanded the Returning Officer in a harsh tone.
This is murder of democracy – Supreme Court
The Supreme Court has said in the hearing that it is clear that the returning officer has mutilated the ballot papers. During the hearing, the Supreme Court said about the Returning Officer – “Does he conduct elections like this? This is a mockery of democracy. This is the murder of democracy. We are shocked. This man should be prosecuted. Is this the returning officer? Is this the behavior of an officer?”
Order to postpone upcoming meeting
The Supreme Court has ordered the preservation of the entire record of the election process, including ballot papers, videography and other materials, through the Registrar General of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The Supreme Court also directed that the upcoming meeting of Chandigarh Corporation be postponed till the next date of hearing.
What is the whole matter?
Actually, BJP had won the mayor’s election held in Chandigarh. Regarding which Aam Aadmi Party had alleged that BJP had won the elections dishonestly. There was a lot of uproar regarding this matter and statements were also made from both the parties. Aam Aadmi Party had also started a fast outside the Municipal Corporation office. On allegations of irregularities in Chandigarh Mayor elections, AAP convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal targeted BJP and accused it of irregularities in the elections. AAP and BJP are face to face in this matter.
