When will the 8th citizen return from Qatar?

The sentences of former Indian soldiers who were sentenced to death in Qatar have been waived. This news is being considered a big diplomatic victory for India. However, till now only 7 out of 8 Indian citizens have been able to return to India. On 12 February, 7 citizens were returned to India. But one citizen has not been able to return yet. Now the Foreign Ministry of India has given information in this matter. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday that the return of the eighth Indian citizen will take place after the necessary formalities are completed.

What was the whole matter?

A Qatar court had sentenced eight former Indian Navy personnel to death on October 26. All of them worked in a Qatari company, Al Dahra, and were arrested in the year 2022. India had lodged a strong objection to this punishment. Karat’s appellate court commuted the death penalty on December 28 and sentenced the former naval personnel to varying terms of imprisonment. Eventually the sentence of these Indian citizens was waived and 7 of them returned to India.

What did the Foreign Ministry say?

On Thursday, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, while replying to a question, said that the eighth Indian citizen has to complete some formalities. He will return after completion of those formalities. He said- “As you are aware, all eight Indian nationals involved in the Al Dahra Global case have been released. Seven of them have returned to India.” Let us tell you that PM Modi had recently visited Qatar and expressed his gratitude to Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for the release of eight Indians.
