Kuldeep Kumar is the new mayor of Chandigarh.
The Supreme Court has given a big decision on Tuesday regarding Chandigarh Mayor elections. After a long hearing, the Supreme Court canceled the result declared by Returning Officer Anil Masih, considering it illegal. Along with this, the Supreme Court has ordered that the Aam Aadmi Party candidate be declared a validly elected candidate for the post of Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. Who is Kuldeep Kumar?
Kuldeep Kumar is a leader of Aam Aadmi Party and councilor from Ward No. 26 in Chandigarh. His age is 39 years. The party had declared him as its candidate in the mayoral elections held on January 30. Kuldeep had alleged rigging in this election, after which the Supreme Court declared him the Mayor of Chandigarh.
How educated and how much property?
According to the affidavit given in 2021, Kuldeep Kumar has studied till class 12th. He passed 12th from Punjab Board in the year 2005. His total movable and immovable assets are around Rs 7 lakh. At the same time, his wife also has assets worth about Rs 1 lakh 66 thousand. He has also mentioned about car loan in the affidavit.
What is the whole controversy?
Mayoral elections were held in Chandigarh on 30 January. BJP’s Manoj Sonkar had won this election. In the election, Sonkar got 16 votes while Kuldeep Kumar got 12 votes. At the same time, 8 votes were declared invalid. However, Kuldeep Kumar had approached the Supreme Court alleging rigging in the elections. Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s statement has also come on Aam Aadmi Party’s Kuldeep Kumar becoming the Mayor of Chandigarh. He wrote – “Kuldeep Kumar is a boy from a poor family. Many congratulations on behalf of INDIA alliance on becoming the Mayor of Chandigarh. This was possible only because of Indian democracy and the Honorable Supreme Court. We should protect our democracy and autonomy under any circumstances. The impartiality of institutions has to be preserved.”
