The situation became very serious on Thursday in Banbhulpura area of Haldwani of Nainital district in Uttarakhand. The Municipal Corporation and police team that reached the area in order to take action to demolish illegal encroachment had to face heavy violence. Violence broke out on a large scale here. What is the whole matter?
On Thursday, the Municipal Corporation demolished the illegal madrassa and namaz place by installing JCB machine in Banbhulpura area of Haldwani. As soon as the administration’s bulldozer moved on the illegal mosque and madrassa, an atmosphere of tension was created there and the angry mob set many vehicles on fire and also broke the JCB. After this, in view of the violent situation arising in the area, curfew has been imposed and orders have been given to shoot the rioters at sight. State CM Pushkar Dhami also called a high-level meeting in the capital Dehradun to review the situation and issued instructions to deal strictly with the unruly elements.
Why did the violence erupt?
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given instructions to remove illegal encroachment on government lands of the state. In the same sequence, the Municipal Corporation team demolished the illegal madrassa and namaz place built in Malik’s garden in Indira Nagar area of Banbhulpura by using JCB machine. After this, all the alleged anarchist elements living nearby pelted stones at the police and administration, in which many policemen were injured. According to the information, many journalists present there also suffered injuries during this period. It is also being said that firing was done on the police with illegal weapons.
What did the police tell?
Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar has said that at around 4 pm today, on the orders of the court, a joint team of district administration and police was conducting anti-encroachment campaign in Banbhulpura, Haldwani, protesting against which some anti-social elements resorted to stone pelting and arson. It is also being said that firing was done on the police with illegal weapons. After this, DIG Kumaon immediately reached the spot and additional police force was also called there. The CM has called an emergency meeting at his residence some time ago and at present the situation in the area is under control.
Home Ministry had to send help
Police have said that the state government has also demanded additional police force from the Home Ministry to handle the violence that broke out in Haldwani. 4 additional companies of central forces of the Ministry of Home Affairs are available with the government. DGP Abhinav Kumar has said that as per the information available with me, many police personnel and administration officials have suffered injuries and have been admitted to hospitals. No casualties have been reported yet. The situation is tense but under control. In the coming days, the people behind the incident will be identified and action will be taken against them.
