Year Ender 2023: The year 2023 will be remembered for the world’s deadliest triple rail accident in Odisha. This year, 300 people lost their lives and more than 1,200 were injured in a triple rail accident near Bahnaga Bazar railway station in Balasore district. This incident happened on June 2, but even after six months have passed, the horrific scene of this accident is still in the minds of the people traveling on the Kolkata-Chennai route. On January 29 this year, a policeman killed cabinet minister Nab Kishore Das. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gopal Das, accused of the murder, has been arrested and is facing trial.

Most controversial bureaucrat

In the year 2023, the politics of Odisha revolved around Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer VK Pandian. Pandian became one of the most controversial bureaucrats in the history of the state. Pandian was accused of seeking control over both the government and the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. BJD MLA and editor of a leading daily newspaper of Odisha, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, had to pay a heavy price for opposing Pandian. He was expelled from the party and his media organization came under the scanner of the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW). Ultimately Soumya Ranjan Patnaik had to resign from the post of founding editor of the daily. After this the matter calmed down.

Pandian joined BJD on 27th November

Pandian opted for voluntary retirement from civil services on 23 October. Subsequently, she was appointed as the chairperson of the state’s 5T (Transformational Initiative) and Nabin Odisha Scheme. This appointment was made within hours of his retirement, giving him the status of a cabinet minister. Pandian joined BJD on 27 November. Pandian has been embroiled in controversy over allegations of facilitating the entry of social media influencer Kamiya Jani into the 12th century Sri Jagannath temple. Jani was accused of being a “beef eater and promoting beef consumption”. Although Jani has claimed that he is a Hindu and has never eaten beef in his life nor promoted it, the opposition BJP and Congress hit out at Pandian for allowing him and hurting people’s religious sentiments. Accused of hurting.

Naveen Patnaik praised the work of Modi government

This year also saw cordiality between the ruling BJD and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik praised the performance of the Modi government and gave it eight out of ten. This year Odisha saw Pramila Malik become the first woman Speaker of the Assembly. Odisha also got a new Governor in the form of Raghubar Das. Odisha-born President Draupadi Murmu also made at least three visits to her home state this year. This year the state once again came into limelight when cocaine worth Rs 220 crore was seized from a ship at Paradip port. (Language)
