Before his departure, PM Modi said that at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, I will be in Dubai on December 1, 2023 to participate in the World Climate Action Summit of COP-28. I am traveling to. I am glad to see that this important event is being organized under the chairmanship of the UAE, which has been an important partner for India in the field of climate action.

The Prime Minister said that in keeping with our civilizational ethos, India has always emphasized climate action while pursuing social and economic development. During our G20 presidency, the issue of climate change was at the top of our priority. The leaders’ announcement from New Delhi includes several concrete steps on climate action and sustainable development. I hope that COP-28 will advance consensus on these issues. He said COP28 would also provide an opportunity to review progress made under the Paris Agreement and chart a way for the future course on climate action.

Prime Minister Modi said that India has always given the highest priority to climate change and has always spoken at the forefront on this issue. He said that at the Voice of Global South summit hosted by India, the Global South had spoken about the need for climate action based on the principles of equity, climate justice and common but differentiated responsibilities as well as a greater focus on adaptation. It is vital that the developing world’s efforts are supported with adequate climate financing and technology transfer.
