US Representative Robert Wood
New York: The ongoing fighting in Gaza between Hamas and Israel has been going on for the last two months. Meanwhile, the proposal for immediate ceasefire in Gaza Strip has been rejected in the UN Security Council. Actually, America used its veto power in favor of Israel. Robert Wood, the US deputy representative to the UN, stressed that the proposal is a departure from reality. He said that unfortunately almost all our recommendations were ignored. That’s why they are using the veto.
America became a shield for Israel
Even before this, America has been openly speaking in favor of Israel in the UN. Even before this, America has vetoed the proposal presented. In this way America once again stood as a shield for Israel.
90 countries supported the proposal
According to the information received, America on Friday (local time) vetoed the UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The proposal was put forward by the United Arab Emirates and supported by more than 90 member states. 13 UNSC members voted in favor of the resolution while Britain abstained.
America gave the reason for using veto
Robert Wood said that we regret that I could not support it. Wood said the US does not understand why the resolution does not include language condemning Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel. The resolution retains the call for an unconditional ceasefire. This is not only unrealistic, but also dangerous. This would simply leave Hamas in place, able to regroup and repeat what it did on October 7.
