The Indian Navy on Saturday said it has responded swiftly to the incident involving the hijacking of a Malta-ship in the Arabian Sea. There are 18 crew members on board this ship.

The Navy, in response to a request for assistance from the ship MV Rouen, dispatched maritime patrol aircraft and its warships deployed in the Gulf of Aden to monitor the area. Authorities received information about the hijacking attempt on Thursday and the Indian Navy sent a mission to the scene on Friday. The navy said its aircraft flew over the hijacked ship and that it was continuously monitoring the movement of the ship which was heading towards the Somalia coast. “Acting swiftly on the changing situation, the Indian Navy has deployed its naval maritime patrol aircraft for surveillance in the area and its patrol warship to combat piracy in the Gulf of Aden,” an Indian Navy spokesperson said.
